Rosa rubiginosa, also known as Wine Rose, Apple Rose, Fence Rose or Sweet Briar, is an English wild rose which was used for many cultivars in the 19th century. It got its nickname among other things because its leaves smell like ripe apples.
These roses are particularly suitable for planting in hedges, are hardy and grow up to 2.5 m high. They bloom in pink to carmine colours and have a bushy growth.
